The Benefits of Drinking Water- A Quick Weight Loss Tip

Did you know that 75% of Americans are chronically dehydrated? Staying hydrated is the best quick weight loss tip and is essential to your health. The biggest problem with hydration is the fact that most of us don’t even think about it until we’re already dehydrated.

Often times when you think you’re hungry, you’re actually dehydrated. While following The 17 Day Diet, you should drink at least eight 8-ounce glasses of pure water daily. You will begin to slowly see the benefits of drinking water.

The Benefits of Drinking Water

The first benefit of drinking water is that it takes up so much space in your tummy that you don’t feel like eating anything else.  Drinking water is crucial to losing weight, and your overall health.

The second benefit of drinking water is that it also helps your body metabolize stored fat. Your kidneys cannot function properly without enough water. When kidneys do not work to their full capacity, some of their work is dumped onto the liver.

One of the liver’s primary functions is to metabolize stored fat into usable energy for the body, but if the liver has to do some of the work for the kidneys, it can’t operate at full capacity. As a result, the liver metabolizes less fat and more fat remains stored in the body. Weight loss stops.

A Quick Weight Loss Tip from The 17 Day Diet

The rate at which you burn calories drops if you are dehydrated. And if you are dehydrated, your body does not absorb nutrients properly. Although beverages such as coffee and tea do have some weight loss benefits, these “negative waters” do not count toward your total daily fluid intake.

Other common negative waters that do not count toward your must have daily allotment of water include: diet sodas, regular sodas, energy drinks, juice, sports drinks, and other flavored waters. If you’re an athlete and regularly consume sports drinks products, consider diluting them so it is one half water and one half sports drink.

Now I know diet soda seems like a dieter’s dream. You can swill down as much as you want, and none of it will go to your thighs, right? Wrong. This bubbly beverage has a sneaky MO to make you put on pounds.

Here’s how: Diet soda is sweetened with artificial sweeteners, which can be many times sweeter than regular sugar. That super-sweet taste can instantly trigger your natural desire for high-calorie, sugary foods. The more you drink, the worse those cravings can be, prompting you to reach for real sweets. You can have diet soft drinks in moderation, but concentrate more on drinking water, sparkling water, or seltzer, all of which keep cravings on an even keel without sparking a junk-food binge.

Water also helps the body get rid of waste during weight loss. During the weight loss process, the body has a lot more waste to get rid of, and water helps flush it out.

Surprisingly, drinking an ample amount of water is the best quick weight loss tip for fluid retention. When the body gets less water, it perceives this as a threat to survival and it begins to hold on to every last precious drop that it receives. Water is then stored outside of the cells. This, in turn, often causes swollen feet, legs, and hands. The best way to overcome the problem of water retention is to give your body exactly what it needs: plenty of water. Only then will stored water be released. 

Drink Water With Lemon

As I talk about in my book, The 17 Day Diet, every morning, as soon as you rise, drink one 8-ounce cup of hot water. Squeeze half of a lemon into the cup; the lemon actually stimulates your digestive juices, and lemon is also a natural detoxifier. Remember, your goal is to drink at least seven more glasses of water by the end of the day to see the true benefits of drinking water.

So, drink up! Before long, you will be the skinniest person in the bathroom.

  1. Hi I really enjoy reading your emails! I have not been following any diet this last while and I have gained even more weight! Should I have my thyroid checked or just get back on track and start over ? Any suggestions? Regards Faye

  2. I have Interstitial Cystitis and cannot drink lemon juice in anything – would recommend another non-acidic item to add to water? I drink Tonic Water instead of soda drinks as it gives the effervesence of soda without the sugar.

  3. I cannot understand your concept of “Negative Waters.” To accept it as fact would mean to assume that although a liquid is say 93% H2O, our bodies cannot detect that water and use it? Difficult to believe. This is important to me because although I have successfully followed your 17 day diet, I had to urinate about 12 times each 24 hours. In addition to the 64 ounces of water and the three cups of green tea, I also had two cups of coffee, yet my body cannot recognize that 40 ounces of liquid as water? That doesn’t make sense to me. Could you clarify?
